Chief Walter J. Ardin Jr. was born and raised in Rockaway Township and still currently resides in Rockaway Township. Chief Ardin attended Rockaway Township Schools and graduated from Morris Knolls High School in 1985. He has received Associate Degrees in Criminal Justice and Computer Information Technology from County College of Morris and has received a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Seton Hall University. Chief Ardin was hired as a Police Officer by Rockaway Township in February of 1990 and assigned to the Departments ESU unit in 1993. He was promoted to Sergeant in February 1999 and served as Shift Commander and Commander of the ESU unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 2004 where he is Commander of Support Services in charge of the Departments Computer Networking and Radio Systems and served as the Department TAC officer. He was promoted to the rank of Chief in August of 2008. Additionally he serves as the Townships Safety Delegate.

Chief Ardin has attended many specialized training schools. To name a few:

In addition Chief Ardin is a Certified Instructor for the following:

· American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Instructor

· First Responder Instructor

· Respiratory Protection and Fit Testing Instructor

· Hazmat Awareness and Operations Instructor

· CBRNE Awareness and Operations Instructor

Chief Ardin is also involved in the Rockaway Township Fire Department White Meadow Lake Company #5, where he has served as Company Chief and Company President. He is also a certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and Ice/Water Rescue Technician.

Chief Ardin has received two lifesaving awards and was awarded the M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Award in 1994.
